Tesco Clubcard hack

News of a potential data breach at Tesco has seen the retailer issue 620,000 new Clubcards to account holders.

In a statement Tesco said that its internal systems had picked up some fraudulent activity around the redemption of customers’ Clubcard vouchers, and as a precaution, Tesco took immediate steps to protect its customers and restrict access to their accounts.

Customers affected were asked to reset their passwords, and Tesco said that it is currently contacting customers whose Clubcard vouchers may have been affected to let them know that they will replace these vouchers and issue new Clubcards.

“It’s no wonder that third-party risk has become the most significant cyber issue for organizations around the globe – lax understanding of third parties’ security posture and practices is creating a massive weak spot for all organisations across all industries,” comments Jake Olcott, VP of Government Affairs at BitSight (
www.bitsight.com).  “Companies must continuously monitor their vendor relationships in order to get a better handle on supply chain risk.”
