Rapid cyber-recovery is a top priority, comments Infinidat

Large enterprises are now seeing rapid cyber recovery as a top priority according to a recent Infinidat commissioned survey.  Over 55% of enterprises with 10,000+ employees say they have already incorporated storage solutions into their overall cybersecurity strategy, with another 20% of enterprises planning for it in the near future.  We talk to Christie Flanagan, Senior Director of Marketing for Infinidat to understand more about the survey’s findings, and why the results reveal a market shift to bolstering the last line of defence for enterprises – cyber storage resilience and recovery.

“Our recently commissioned survey with The Register / Blocks & Files reveals a turning point in the way CIOs and CISOs, who are responsible for the overall security of IT infrastructure, are increasingly embracing cyber resilient storage.”

“A key component of cyber resilient storage is near instantaneous cyber recovery.  In simple terms, this refers to how fast an organization can recover a known clean copy of data in the aftermath of a cyberattack, such as a ransomware or malware attack.  As soon as data is taken “hostage” by cyber criminals – causing downtime and putting an enterprise in a perilous situation for reputational damage, financial loss, and customer disruption – the most important question is: how fast can the enterprise rebound from the cyberattack?”

“In the survey, large enterprises were asked how fast they need to recover from an attack before they start to suffer from serious damage.  The window of time for an enterprise to recover from a cyberattack can be as narrow as the re-entry window for a spacecraft into Earth’s atmosphere, usually lasting from just a few minutes to about 30 minutes.  It’s the same for many high-end enterprises in recovery from a cyberattack.”

“Over 30% said their recovery time objective is either “under 30 minutes” or, at most, “under one hour.”  Another 30% of respondents indicated that it’s somewhere between one and 12 hours.  The remainder indicated “under 24 hours.”

“It’s clearly important for an enterprise to adopt a recovery-first cyber strategy.  This means that you proactively plan ahead to make cyber storage resilience a cornerstone of protecting your organization’s data infrastructure.  This is where next-generation data protection should be on every CISO’s and CIO’s radar this year.”

“Approximately 43% of those surveyed cited enterprise storage and data protection as spending priorities.  This level of spending on storage and data protection is on par with current spending for server or applications/workloads cybersecurity software.  Market data shows the assertion that cyber resilient storage solutions are gaining momentum among enterprise customers.  A third of survey respondents currently depend on storage system-based cyber recovery solutions.”

“The companies that embrace enterprise storage system-based cyber recovery solutions with next-generation data protection, such as Infinidat’s InfiniSafe® solutions, will gain a competitive advantage over those that don’t.  The difference between cyber safeguarding a data infrastructure will be as stark as the difference between looking at the Mona Lisa in the Louvre vs looking at a billboard with a photo of the Mona Lisa on the highway.  Quality must not be compromised – especially for securing your data.”

“In a nutshell, Infinidat has redefined traditional data protection, leading the way with the dramatic shift to next-generation data protection that delivers cyber storage resilience and recovery.  It’s a huge step up from modern data protection because our company has taken the cyber storage resilience stack – including immutable snapshots, logical air gapping, a fenced forensic environment, and guaranteed near-instantaneous cyber recovery – and combined it with cutting-edge innovation in two key areas: (1) cyber detection, which is built directly into the InfiniBox® primary storage platform; and (2) automated cyber protection, a first-of-its-kind capability that integrates with cybersecurity applications.”

“Infinidat’s InfiniSafe Cyber Detection solution is a state-of-the-art solution that ensures that the data you recover after a cyberattack has integrity and is free from corruption. The value of this solution was affirmed by the survey’s result that showed how enterprises require a process to validate recovered data to make sure that data is not corrupted. Over 47% of respondents rely on tools supplied by storage or backup vendors.”

“While Infinidat’s InfiniSafe Automated Cyber Protection (ACP) integrates seamlessly into Security Operation Centres (SOCs) and cybersecurity applications, namely security information and event management (SIEM) and security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR) applications.  The value of this solution was affirmed by the survey’s result that showed how over 50% of survey respondents see SIEM and SOAR applications as a key area for investment.”

“Infinidat is powerfully aligned with the direction that the enterprise market is going for cybersecurity. Infinidat guarantees recovery of immutable snapshots in under one minute on our InfiniBox and InfiniBox™ SSA platforms, while Infinidat guarantees recovery of immutable snapshots in under 20 minutes on our InfiniGuard® secondary storage solutions. This is cyber resilience in action.”

“You can stay one or more steps ahead of cyber criminals.  It starts with focusing on the last line of defence – cyber storage resilience and recovery.”
